Historic Buildings Conservation

I can help you identify suitable new uses for historic buildings. I can also guide you through the planning and listed buildings application process, producing the Heritage Statement and Impact Assessment which are required for listed building consent applications.

A Heritage Statement should provide the local planning authority with enough information to adequately understand the impact of the proposals, including alterations, extensions and new development, on the significance of any heritage assets affected.

Understanding the significance of an historic building complex or area (the ‘asset’) and the possible impact of the proposed scheme on this significance is the key to good conservation practice. Good information, available from the outset, can speed up the processing of applications, reduce costs and lead to better overall design.

Conservation Areas

I support local authorities in producing conservation area appraisals. Working independently or with the local authority conservation officer, I help identify, record and describe the special significance of areas and develop management plans to preserve or enhance their character. I have produced a number of conservation area appraisals for Cheshire East Council. I have also assisted in designation of new conservation areas, for example at Earlestown for St Helens Borough Council.

Wrenbury conservation area

Working with local authority conservation officers, we have produced several conservation area appraisals, including Wrenbury, Cheshire, above.
